pfsense is currently difficult to maintain and poses issues that typically strike around release time. it was discussed at one point to just migrate to opnsense instead with a similar configuration and other things in place that it may not support vs pfsense.

We are currently using opnsense in some places, but not everywhere. This is to track that potential migration to opnsense.
