Some clarifying questions about the RESF financial status and roadmap #9

I'd like to get a better idea of the RESF's financial status as a B-corp or Delaware Public Benefit Corp or whatever we are. I have been led to believe those are two different types of entity. As a person who publicly represents the Foundation, I'd like clarification so [the RESF] can publicly re-clarify what our status means.

For the same reason, I also need to understand the process/path for projects to join the RESF, what the RESF commits to provide projects it hosts, and how we back that up. What's our selling point? What benefit do they receive for joining? If joining the Foundation is not possible at this time, what are the blockers?

How can we take advantage of Rocky being certified a Digital Public Good?

How can we generate funding/revenue streams as an organization, in addition to diversifying corporate sponsorship? These are my suggestions:

  • develop a product
  • lean into YT and other social influencer channels, for income and ad revenue.
  • real estate in the various cities we regularly travel to (mostly a joke but maybe it will inspire other ideas)
  • other investments. a mutual fund at least?
  • grants (some small business available, but most are directed toward non-profits)
  • educational certification i.e. Linux level 1

From my perspective, it seems for the long-term sustainability of the Rocky Linux project we need to either develop a product/income stream comprised of one or more of the above categories, supported by a team of legitimate employees and contractors (i.e. RESF-funded developer/maintainers, professional marketing team, business managers), or re-articulate to IRS non-profit status to we can be eligible for grant funding.
